Beijing and shanghai lead 2007 chinese development index

Chinanews, Beijing, Dec. 27 – The Renmin University of China announced Chinese Development Index on Wednesday, with Beijing ranking first, and Shanghai following it on the list.

 

Tianjin, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Liaoning, Shandong and Jilin are listed into the second category, and Fujian, Inner Mongolia, Hunan, Hubei, Hebei, Henan, Shanxi, Hainan, Chongqing and Xinjiang were listed in the third category. Ningxia, Jiangxi, Shaanxi, Anhui, Sichuan, Qinghai and Tibet are listed in the fourth category.

 

Peng Fei, a scholar from the Renmin University, said that the coastal areas in China are developing well and most of them come under the second category. Regions in the fourth category need further development, he said.

 

The 2007 Chinese Development Index also has several specific sub-indexes, including citizens’ health, education and annual income.
