特斯拉否认与中国公司合资在上海建厂
US-based electric automaker Tesla Motors has clarified that it has not signed a 30 billion yuan (4.5 billion US dollars) joint investment agreement with a Chinese company on building its production facilities in Shanghai.
美国电动汽车生产商特斯拉汽车公司澄清道,他们与某中国公司联合投资300亿元人民币(45亿美元)在上海建厂的协议尚未签署。
Senior PR manager at Tesla China Duan Zhengzheng said on Tuesday that Tesla is now on the early stages of investigating a most appropriate location for its new plant in China.
Bloomberg, citing a person familiar with the deal, reported earlier that Shanghai government-owned Jinqiao Group signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Tesla on building the facilities, with the former putting up land for most of its share.
In addition, manufacturing in China would allow Tesla to avoid a 25-percent import levy, making its electric vehicles more competitive against luxury-brand rivals, such as BMW and Audi.
The report adds that Suzhou in Jiangsu and Hefei in Anhui are also among the cities that are actively seeking to win investment from Tesla.
