Hollywood motion picture studio settles in shanghai

Chinanews, Shanghai, May 21 - Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, one of the most prominent motion picture studios in Hollywood (also known as MGM) announced in Shanghai last Friday that it had signed a cooperative agreement with Shanghai Tianhong Real Estate Investment Limited Company to jointly establish a MGM entertainment world in the Changfeng Ecological Business District in Putuo District, Shanghai. The entertainment center will become a Chinese-style Hollywood world where people can watch movies, experience hi-tech entertainment activities, dine or go shopping, the Jiefang Daily reported.

The entertainment world is the outcome of a “happy marriage” between Shanghai and advanced international service industry. The Changfeng Ecological Business District is one of the nine major areas in Shanghai where a cluster of modern service industries gather. In recent years, the district has developed very fast. By the end of this year, several large construction projects, including large shopping malls, parks, medium- and high-class office buildings, and numerous five-star hotels will be kicked off there. These construction projects will altogether cover an area of 1 million square meters.

These construction projects will include the buildings of Shanghai Multi-national Purchasing Center, the UN Refugee Agency Shanghai Information Center, the UN Procurement Service Shanghai Branch, and procurement centers set up by several European countries and the United States in Shanghai. The Changfeng Ecological Business District aims to build a media center in its area. Accordingly, it has signed an agreement with the Jiefang Daily Newspaper Group in building a new media center in Shanghai. The new media center will contain multiple functions, where people can work and attend conventions, demonstrations, press conferences, and meetings. Media industry is one of the major projects that the Changfeng Ecological Business District aims to develop.

Being an ecological business area, the Changfeng Ecological Business District has done a lot in improving its natural environment. It has made 700 mu (about 466,666.69 O) of areas into green plots and built a 2.7-kilometer-long green belt along the Suzhou River. The green belt, extending 80-130 meters in width, is expected to be finished by the end of this year. Along the Suzhou River, there are water platforms, piers, large areas of green plots, and unique buildings. One can also find bars, tea houses, coffee shops, restaurants and boutiques lining both sides of the river, too. In future, the green belt will become one of the golden areas in northwest Shanghai.
