郝景芳获雨果奖

Chinese writer Hao Jingfang has become the second Chinese to take home a Hugo Award, which is widely seen as the highest award for science fiction in the world.

中国作家郝景芳成为第二位获得雨果奖的中国人,该奖项被广泛认为是世界科幻小说的最高奖项。

On Saturday, Hao was awarded this year's Hugo for Best Novelette for her work "Folding Beijing" in Chinese, at the World Science Fiction Convention in Kansas City in the United States.

The novelette category recognizes short works between 7,500 and 17,500 words.

"Folding Beijing" tells of the struggle of a father trying to send his daughter to school in futuristic Beijing, alluding to the difficulties that some Chinese parents are undergoing to ensure their children receive a high quality education.

Accepting her award in person in Kansas City, the young Chinese writer says win or lose, she would be happy either way.

"I'm not going to say I'm very surprised of this prize, because I already expected this scenario. Well, it does not mean that I'm very proud and I think I'm better than anybody else. The truth is that I also expected another scenario that I'm not winning, and I would attend a party called the Hugo losers party after this ceremony held by one of my favorite writers. Actually I almost cannot decide which scenario I am more looking forward to."
