A new service is being launched in Beijing to try to encourage vehicle owners to drive less.
一项鼓励北京私家车主少开车的服务正在展开。
"Green Drivers", or "Lvxingzhe" in Chinese, has been set up by carbon trading platform China Beijing Environment Exchange, vehicle networking firm Soooner, China Construction Bank and seven Chinese insurance companies.
Under the program, each vehicle owner will get at least 0.5 yuan (8 US cents) per day for not driving their cars. If owners purchase automobile insurance from the seven insurance companies involved, they can earn up to 20 yuan per day.
Participants will have to pay an initial deposit of close to one-thousand yuan to rent the equipment which will monitor whether their vehicle moves.
Vehicle owners will then be credited through a WeChat account.
