2017中国新生儿数量有所下降
The number of newborns in China last year was 880,000 fewer than that of the previous year, according to a report released by the National Health and Health Commission, reports bjnews.com.
国家卫生健康委员会公布的一份报告显示，2017年国内新生儿数量较前年减少88万。
According to the report, the number of new born babies in 2017 was 17.58 million, and over 50% of them were the second child in a family.
In 2016, the number of new born babies reached nearly 18.5 million, which was the largest number of new births in China since 2000, and the number of second children accounted for 45% of the total that year.
Since China's two-child policy went into force on January 1, 2016, couples have been allowed to have two children. That ended China's long-existing one-child policy.
