南京的小学生将免费享受课后看护
Primary school students in Nanjing city will be able to enjoy free after-school care starting with the upcoming spring semester, reports Modern Express.
《现代快报》报道,春季学期开学之后,南京市的小学生将享受免费的课后看护。
Parents who have difficulties getting their children home after school can apply for the free service. While schools are usually over at around 3-4pm, pupils will be able to stay at school until 5pm in winter and 6pm in other seasons and do their homework.
Schools are also encouraged to introduce various after-school activities by inviting volunteers from outside. The expenses for transportation, communications and other necessary fees will be covered by the city government.
A teacher said her school used to offer free after-school care for students, but it was basically organized by the teachers themselves and students could only do homework or read books and newspapers in the library. With government support, it is now possible to organize more interesting activities for students, she said.
The decision has also been hailed by parents who used to pay for private after-school care or tutorship for their children.
A mother surnamed Wang said the new practice will allow students to study and play together after school, and it is even better for schools to introduce volunteers such as college students so that the children can also learn from them.
