北京机场大量航班因大雪延误
Large number of flights at the Beijing Capital International Airport were cancelled or delayed due to heavy snowfalls on Sunday, according to Beijing News. The delays have stranded passengers for two days.
《新京报》报道,由于周日大雪,北京国际机场大量航班呗取消或延误。旅客被滞留达两天时间。
A total of over 300 flights were canceled, while many flights were delayed, as Beijing News reported.
The report by Beijing News found that inadequate operation coordination systems, along with equipment that were not properly de-iced, were the main cause for the massive delays.
The report also found that the Beijing Capital International Airport is only capable of de-icing 20 planes per hour, while about 80 flights were waiting for departure in the morning peak hours, which means three quarters of flights had to be delayed.
Generally, de-icing for one runway in the airport takes 40 minutes. During continuous snowfalls, deicing is needed for both arriving and departing planes to ensure the safety of airport operations.
