中国将加强监管婴儿配方奶粉

China's food safety watchdog has issued regulations to tighten supervision on baby formula.

中国食品安全监察机构已经就加强监管婴儿配方奶粉发布管理规定。

Starting from October, all baby formula producers who sell products in China will have to register and secure permits from the China Food and Drug Administration.

Deputy chief of the FDA, Teng Jiacai, says the new regulations limit the number of formulas each producer can register.

"Manufacturers should be able to develop, produce and supervise their own formulas. There is a saying that goes: don't strain yourself if you can't reach that far." Theoretically, each company can register for as many as 9 formulas. We will examine their labels, instructions and claims during the registration process.

According to the regulations, vague or exaggerating labels will be forbidden on the packaging of baby formulas.
