Shanxi to develop coal bed methane
Chinanews, Taiyuan, October 18 – Coal bed methane, or so-called “gas”, is what causes many accidents in coal mines; however, Shanxi is planning to invest about 9 billion yuan to bring it under control.
It is estimated that there are more than 30 trillion cubic meters of coal bed methane reserve nationwide, ranking China third in the world, after Russia and Canada in this kind of reserve. Every year, more than 1.3 billion cubic meters of this precious energy are discharged during mining, and wasted.
Shanxi has a coal bed methane reserve of more than 1 trillion cubic meters, and the provincial government is planning to build 8 power stations with the total capacity of 189 mega kw based on the rich methane resource, and estimated investment on the power stations will be 1.27 billion yuan, about 14% of the total investment of the province.
