Malignancy becomes top killer in china

Chinanews, Beijing, May 9 - According to the latest statistics collected by the Ministry of Health, the top killer of Chinese in 2006 was malignancy, or deadly tumor.

 

The statistics were based on the result of a survey covering 30 cities and 78 rural townships in China, finding the top killers of Chinese were malignancy, cerebrovascular disease, heart disease, respiratory disease, poison and other damages, endocrine and metabolic disease, digestive disease, genitourinary disease, neurological disease and mental disease, which took up the causes of 90.4% of deaths in 2006 (the figure in rural areas was even 92.3%).

 

The survey also finds that the incidence of malignancies was 18.6% higher compared with 2005, while the no incidences of the rest diseases on the list witnessed a two-digit growth.
