中国深海探测器探及海底10767米
China has announced that it sent its first unmanned deep-sea submersible 10,767 meters deep in the ocean.
中国宣布其无人深海潜水器首次到达10767米的最新深度。
China has become the third country after Japan and the U.S. to reach such a depth.
The announcement came from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which held a news conference in Beijing on Tuesday, 11 days after Tan Suo Yi Hao, the mother ship ferrying the Haidou, a Chinese-developed ARV (autonomous and remotely operated vehicle), returned from her maiden voyage on August 12.
During its 52-day mission, the ship conducted 84 research projects in the Mariana Trench with domestically developed high-end deep-sea devices including the Haidou, the Tianya and Haijiao deep-sea landers, an ocean floor seismometer and other appliances, which collected many valuable samples at different depths during the voyage.
Bai Chunli, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said at Tuesday's news conference that the mission indicates that China has entered a new era in the field of marine science and technology and will further promote the development of China's deep-sea technology.
