Oct. 16 - China has secured three gold medals at the 2006 Japan Open Badminton Tournament, which ended on Sunday in Tokyo.
Chinese top seed Lin Dan smashed his Indonesian arch-rival Taufik Hidayat for the men's singles title. World top player Lin came over from being one set down to conquer Hidayat 16-21, 21-16 and 21-3. On the women's side, Olympic gold medalist Zhang Ning outlasted fellow Chinese Xie Xingfang in the final to win the singles title. The world number one upset Xie 21-11, 16-21 and 30-29 in a seesaw battle lasting 88 minutes. In doubles action, China's world champion Gao Ling and Huang Sui won in straight sets 21-15 and 21-17 over compatriots Zhang Yawen and Wei Yili for the championship. Indonesian pair Flandy Limpele and Vita Marissa took the mixed doubles title, while the men's doubles trophy went to the duo of Tony Gunanwan and Candra Wijaya.
