伊拉克拉马迪从伊斯兰国“完全解放”

Iraq's counter-terrorism forces have declared victory over Islamic State militants in the city of Ramadi.

伊拉克拉马迪市反恐武装宣布在对抗伊斯兰国武装分子的斗争中取得胜利。

The joint operations spokesman Yahya Rasool said in a statement broadcast on state television that forces have achieved an "epic victory" in the city.

"Yes, the city of Ramadi has been liberated. The Iraqi counter terrorism forces have raised the Iraqi flag over the government complex in Anbar to raise the name of the country and write down a new date because we have defended our dignity and our lands. "

Media reports are suggesting that small-scale fighting still continues in some pockets inside the city.

The victory over Ramadi is the first major triumph for the U.S.-trained force since the city was captured by IS militants in May.

Following the announcement, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi hailed the victory, and pledged to end his country's battle with the IS group, also known as Daesh, in the coming year.

"If 2015 was the year of liberation, 2016, God willing, will be the year of the great victory and the year of the final victory and the end of the presence of Daesh on Iraqi soil and their final great defeat."
