China's domestic-built J-20 fighter underwent sea-based combat training for the first time on Wednesday.

The stealth fighter training exercise was designed to improve the combat capability of China's air force.
The J-20 is China's fourth-generation medium and long-range fighter jet. It made its maiden flight in 2011 and was officially commissioned into service last September.
A spokesperson for the PLAAF, Shen Jinke, said J-20 pilots have been engaged in training exercises ever since the stealth fighter became part of China's air force. Together with the J-16 and J-10C, the J-20 stealth fighter plays an important role in the combat capability of the PLAAF. The spokesperson said that sea-based training helps the PLAAF to protect the nation's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
