Iran launched extensive military drills on Thursday near the Strait of Hormuz at the entrance to the Persian Gulf.

It's the first time Iran has organized military maneuvers so far from its coastline.

"We transferred parts of our military equipment and forces from the south-west of the country to the south-east so that we can assess our agility in rapid transportation."
 
The exercises are set to last six days and involve ballistic missiles and drone testing.
 
Close to 13,000 personnel from army, navy and air force units will participate.
 
The army says the maneuvers will pose no danger to foreign forces in the Persian Gulf.
 
Hormuz Strait is the only sea passage from the Persian Gulf to the open ocean, through which one-fifth of the world's oil supply passes.
