阿富汗雪崩死亡人数已超200

The death toll of Afghanistan's recent avalanches triggered by heavy snowfall has risen above 200, officials said on Thursday.

阿富汗官员周四表示,近期由暴雪引发的雪崩造成的死亡人数已超过200。

The heavy snow is set to last for two more days after an unusually dry winter led to fears of drought.

Officials have warned of an imminent humanitarian emergency in areas most severely hit by the bad weather, with snow sweeping through villages and blocking off roads.

Despite bringing misery to so many people, the snow is vital for Afghanistan, where much of the rural population dependent on agriculture relies on snow melting in the mountains to sustain crops in the spring and summer.
