世卫组织与韩国联合调查mers

The World Health Organization and South Korea will jointly conduct a 5-day investigation into the country's spread of MERS, starting today.

从今天起,世界卫生组织将与韩国联合进行一项为期5天的针对中东呼吸综合症蔓延的调查。

The joint mission will be co-led by Keiji Fukuda, WHO's assistant director-general for health security, who arrived in South Korea on Monday afternoon.

Fukuda says his team will cooperate with South Korean experts and discuss epidemiological investigations into confirmed cases and infection control.

"We will begin by the first meeting and talking with our colleagues from the government, then we will work with them to assess the situation and to help identify what are the best ways to control the outbreak. "

As the number of confirmed MERS cases in South Korea has surged to 87, the country now has the second highest number of MERS infections in the world, after Saudi Arabia.

South Korean President Park Geun-hye paid a visit to the recently-built pan-governmental MERS countermeasures support centre on Monday.
